They've tried to make things work, but sources say Dakota Johnson and Matthew Hitt are on their way to breaking up again -- after recently reconciling shortly after splitting up. The Fifty Shades of Grey actress reportedly has interests that do not include her musician on-again, off-again boyfriend.
The 25-year-old star has been publicly dating Hitt, 28, lead singer of the Drowners, since last July and they're often spotting hanging out in New York City, holding hands, and looking lovey-dovey. But rumors about trouble in paradise surfaced after the holidays, when Dakota and Matthew reportedly broke up, possibly because of her "crazy life" and all of the publicity she was getting for playing Anastasia Steele.
Sources say they never really stopped talking and that they reconnected this spring while she was filming How to Be Single. But now that the project is complete, Dakota has a lot more time on her hands, and instead of spending it with Matthew, she has decided she would much rather be with her friends. Speculation about her single status came to a head after Dakota was spotted on several outings alone or with friends -- with Matthew nowhere to be found.

Of course, it's possible Matthew has his own career to tend to and that Dakota is just doing her thing for the time being, but from the outside, it doesn't seem like they are putting in a great deal of effort to stay close and connected. Considering the fact that Dakota's hectic schedule isn't about to slow down any time soon (she is set to begin shooting Fifty Shades Darker in the new year), they are going to have to find a way to make a relationship work around their busy lives.
It's a sad fact of life, but sometimes we find lovely people whom we want in our world, but the timing is all wrong. If this is the case with Dakota and Matthew, here's hoping they can hook up in the future, when their crazy lives settle down a bit.
