We folks in the Northeast are so cold, so sick and tired of snow and shoveling and ice and nightmare commutes that we would cry every morning if we didn't think our tears would immediately turn into icicles and shatter upon our poor, cold feet. Upstate New York's Ithaca-Tompkins County Convention and Visitors Bureau knows you have no intention of visiting its gorgeous, picturesque Finger Lakes region anytime soon, so they released a hilarious ad suggesting a far better alternative. And they're just one of several folks proving this winter is making some of us a little batty.
Ithaca, like lots of other cities up north, has given up the good fight and is so concerned that you'll be stranded there for at least a month if you visit that it doesn't even want your stupid tourism dollars this season.
Visit Ithaca says it is surrendering and suggests you hop on a plane to Key West instead: "Due to this ridiculously stupid winter, Ithaca invites you to visit The Keys this week. Please come back when things thaw out. Really, it's for the birds here now ... P.S. Send us a postcard":
HA! Genius marketing strategy right there—one that has me totally sold on the idea of visiting Ithaca, assuming April isn't actually a cruel joke.
The extreme cold has inspired other folks across the Internet, specifically those in Massachusetts who all desperately need hugs right now, to create memes in honor of the weather. Most likely because there's little else to do when you've been trapped in your house for 35 days straight.
There's this one:
And my favorite:
Over the snow, see you in the spring. #makeitstop #oversnow #warmerweater
It seems even houses of worship are tired of hearing us complain about the weather:
Things have gotten so bad that Boston Mayor Martin J.Walsh had to yell at adults in the city and remind them that they can't just stop their cars in the middle of the road to jump into random snow banks.
"You can kill yourself," Walsh reportedly told them. "I'm asking people to stop the nonsense ... This isn't Loon Mountain. This is the city of Boston."
If you live in Arizona and are laughing your flip-flops off while reading this poolside, watch out for that scorpion to your left.
How are you coping with this winter?
