James and a sex toy company that promised its Fifty Shades of Grey lubricant would deliver the kind of mind-blowing pleasure that has only ever been felt by Anastasia Steele. Needless to say, the woman was not satisfied.
Tania Warchol says she purchased Fifty Shades of Grey Come Alive Pleasure Gel for Her on at least two occasions because she believed it would do what the copy on the packaging claimed: to give users "experience enhanced orgasms and stimulation as every tingle, touch and vibration intensifies."
Warchol's attorney says she thought the lubricant would enhance her sexual pleasure and was an aphrodisiac, but that it didn't make good on its promise. Further complicating matters, the gel may not have the right to call itself an "aphrodisiac" because it didn't receive FDA approval for its purported benefits as an aphrodisiac.
Well, color me stunned. First of all, I always assumed aphrodisiacs were like unicorns. It won't hurt you to believe in them if if it makes you feel better about the world, but I probably wouldn't bet the ranch that one will trot up to my door and offer me a ride to work.
So, I've learned something today. Considering how the FDA approves certain products as aphrodisiacs, but didn't approve this lube as a sex magic potion—and assuming the word "aphrodisiac" appears somewhere on the packaging—I can see why Warchol has a case. Personally, I would never expect a lubricant to do anything other than assist in the goal of having an orgasm, which, call me old-fashioned, but I kind of think is up to me to achieve. But, technically, I suppose this woman has a valid argument.
Warchol's complaint, which she filed on behalf of every woman who has ever purchased this lube, also includes an allegation that the product claims it is "latex compatible" but hasn't received the FDA approval it needs to label itself as such.
It will be interesting to see how many women are willing to come forward and admit they've tried this lubricant and that it failed to deliver Anastasia's "draining, soul-grabbing orgasm."
