Did your heart stop for a second when you read the news that the last standing Golden Girl -- the hilarious, amazing, iconic Betty White -- had died at her home?
Rest assured, you were NOT the only one who shed a premature tear. It seems the entire nation went nuts for about 10 minutes today when "news" broke that the 92-year-old had passed away peacefully at her California adobe. But, friends, the good news is that we were the victims here. Betty is, thank god, alive and well. The hysteria was the result of a misunderstanding that took place after the word "dye" was used in a satirical article -- as in Betty White "DYES" her hair at her Los Angeles home -- but was mistaken for the very, very different homophone, "D-I-E."
It all started after Empire News published a funny fake article entitled, "Actress Betty White, 92, Dyes Peacefully in Her Los Angeles Home." People began going nuts and spreading false rumors about White without actually reading the article, which contains lines like this one: "She has been dyeing her own hair in her home for decades. Betty has often told me she feels it is relaxing and soothing to dye her own hair, peacefully in her home, where she can laugh and enjoy time with her animals."
It was just a joke! Har, har?
In real life, White's agent has confirmed she is working on the set of Hot in Cleveland and doing just dandy.
As for whether she actually dyes her hair at home -- puhleeze, people. You rarely get a beautiful shade of blonde-white like that from a box.
The moral of this story: read articles. Entire articles -- from start to finish. And never doubt Betty White's mortality.
