You can fool a lot of people some of the time, but you can fool teenagers, maybe, once before they put up their hands and whatever you out of their lives.
And that's exactly what happened during last night's Teen Choice Awards. Twitter lit up during the annual awards show because, in the process of stepping up its game and, for the first time, doling out surfboard trophies to teens who found fame on social media outlets like Vine, its producers managed to tick off the web stars who didn't make the cut.
An 18-year-old named Cameron Dallas, who has 3.1 million followers on Vine, seemed to start up the drama when he won "Choice Viner" instead of "Choice Web Star: Male." He took to Twitter and raged about how he had been told he was the winner six days prior to the show, but the voting was left open in order to get more publicity for the awards show.
That opened up the floodgates. Another Vine star named Matt Espinosa also shared how producers told him to tell his fans to vote for him even though they knew he wasn't going to win against YouTube star Tyler Oakley. Then Vine celeb Carter Reynolds boldly declared: "#TCAs is rigged and that #TCAS2014 used all of us for promotion. What a joke. #TeensDontHaveaChoiceAwards"
And all hell broke loose. Teens ranted about the awards show all night long on Twitter. Whether what they're saying is true or not, the well was poisoned. It will be interesting to see if this actually ends up affecting the show next summer or if all will be forgotten in a matter of days.
Ah, well. Things fared better for Hollywood celebs at the awards show. Adam Levine snagged "Choice TV Reality Personality -- Male" for The Voice, and Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea won "Choice Single Female Artist" for their song, "Problem." The best "Drama" movie award went to The Fault in Our Stars, and the film's lead actress, Shailene Woodley, proved a major winner when she stole the awards for "Choice Movie Actress: Action" (for her work in Divergent), "Choice Movie Actress: Drama," AND best kiss with TFIOS co-star Ansel Elgort.
Other big winners included Jennifer Lawrence for "Choice Movie Actress: Sci-Fi/Fantasy," Lucy Hale for "Choice TV Actress: Drama," Nina Dobrev for "Choice TV Actress: Sci-Fi/Fantasy," and Lea Michele for "Choice TV Actress: Comedy." Taylor Swift FINALLY got the "Choice Female Country Artist" award that we bet she's been pining for, Keeping Up With the Kardashians took home "Choice TV: Reality Show," and sweetie pie Selena Gomez accepted the "Ultimate Choice Award" and then graciously thanked her mom and fans for making her a "better" person.

So, there you have it: a bit of scandal and a lot of love at this year's Teen Choice Awards show.
And, alas, no Justin Bieber appearances. Which, we realize, is a good thing. But does anyone else agree that Orlando Bloom would have received a standing ovation if he popped up on stage for even five seconds?
Who were you rooting for at the Teen Choice Awards? Did any of the winners surprise you?
