Clik here to view. You know how the big ongoing joke is that the Queen's guards at Buckingham Palace are so stiff they never crack a smile or give tourists the satisfaction of seeing them, even for a second, look like anything less than statues? Well, forget all that because in one single, amazing performance, the guards have proven they are changing with the times (ha, ha, get it)?
Queen Elizabeth II's iconic guards performed the Game of Thrones theme song and the video clip of their performance is making waves all over the world.
Apparently, the guards aren't the first to create their own awesome rendition of the theme song, which was written by composer Ramin Djawadi. This year alone, the song has enjoyed a jazz makeover, a tribute by the Celtic Harp Orchestra, and -- my personal favorite -- a super-funny (and really bad, but good-bad) '80s synth-pop version.
Not sure why, but it just seems fitting that the Queen's guards would cover this regal song and give it even more royal flavor. Chances are the song coincided with the Royal Family's announcement that Queen Elizabeth plans to visit the Game of Thrones set when she travels to Northern Ireland this week.
Sweet!
