Kristen Stewart's Directorial Debut Is Like Nothing We Expected (VIDEO)

People love to criticize Kristen Stewart for the moody, brooding face she often wears in public, but the truth is: the girl has talent, skill, and aspirations that extend beyond acting. The Twilight star has made her directorial debut and the result is nothing short of impressive.

We got word back in February that KStew had been asked by her friend Sage Galesi to direct the band Sage + The Saints' music video for their song "Take Me to the South." Many of us thought, Hmmm ... that's interesting and cute ... maybe Kristen is just bored? But we judged her far too quickly. Kristen took her directing duties seriously and helped create a vid the band -- and she -- should be proud of.

The 24-year-old actress, whose latest film Clouds of Sils Maria proved a hit at the Cannes Film Festival, was reportedly the only person Sage truly trusted to bring her song to life. Sage says she thought her buddy had the "perfect vision" for her tune because she knows her really well and understood what she was trying to convey in the song.

Kristen flew down to Nashville to work on the band's video, which features Sage making a bold move from Los Angeles to the "Music City" to make a go of it as a country music singer. It shows Sage both onstage and all alone in her room, writing music. It perfectly captures what I assume is the experience of being a working musician who is striving for success and fame.

Kristen is a smart cookie for expanding her horizons in this way, and I hope it's just the first of many directorial projects for her. Hollywood can be merciless when it comes to actresses. So many talented young women have been quickly forgotten and offered fewer roles as they grow older. It's an unfair fact. KStew is wise to set herself up now for a life beyond acting.

Did I mention she did a good job? But you can be the judge of that:
