Actor Bill Murray is a lot of things. Talented. Hilarious. Unpredictable. A complete oddball, in the best way possible. But "love guru"? Whoda thought?!
While dining out in Charleston, South Carolina this weekend, Bill was approached by a couple of guys whose buddy was celebrating his bachelor party at the same restaurant. Sounds like the comedian tried to be polite at first and kindly turned down their offer to make an appearance and wish their friend well. When they left all dejected and sad, I'm guessing the Lost in Translation star remembered that he's Bill freaking Murray and making out of the ordinary appearances is kinda his thing. He wound up "crashing" the man's bachelor party and offering the best love advice we've heard in a long time.
So, you know how we torture ourselves trying to plan the perfect bachelorette party for the bride-to-be? Well, Bill reminds us that bachelor parties (and we'll assume the same could be said for bachelorette parties) are for the unmarried -- not for the groom. He then got all serious and told the guys how they'd know they had met their soul mate:
If you have someone that you think is the one ... take that person and travel around the world. Buy a plane ticket for the two of you to travel all around the world and go to places that are hard to go to and hard to get out of. And ... when you land at JFK and you're still in love with that person, get married.
Amen, Bill. He's totally right -- if you can hack it with someone in a place that offers few luxuries, you're as good as golden. Maybe you're sitting there thinking, what is this crazy Bill Murray-loving lunatic going on about ... his advice isn't that poignant. But remember: it's not like Bill wrote this down ahead of time. He just climbed up a flight of stairs at a restaurant and winged it among strangers. And yet, this speech is better than most best man speeches I've heard at weddings!
Not sure what it is about Bill that makes me want to sit and soak in every single thing he says. I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that he's kind of like a cross between a dad, best friend, and the guy you wanted to date in high school but wouldn't because you knew he'd take off for Mexico at a moment's notice without bothering to call you first.
If you're like me and can't get enough Bill Murray in your life, check out this video of him at the bachelor party. Warning: there's a bit of cursing and a whole lot of happy young men hanging onto his every word.
What do you think of the way Bill Murray shows up at random events?
