Emma Watson isn't just a talented actress and a pretty face -- you can call her an Ivy League grad now, too! The Harry Potter star, who recently had a role in Noah alongside Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly, graduated from the prestigious Brown Universitywith a degree in English literature today. The 24-year-old defied all odds by continuing to act and lead an amazing professional career while persuing her dream of becoming a college grad.
True, it took Watson 5 years -- a little longer than most take -- to complete her college education. She started in 2009, but took a break in 2011 to promote the Harry Potter film, The Deathly Hallows, Part 2. While some actresses, and ordinary folk, might find it difficult to return to school after taking a hiatus and enjoying a bit of time in la la land, Watson was committed and returned to fulfill her obligations at Brown.
Watson once said in an interview that everyone told her it would be impossible to graduate. She says she was determined to prove them wrong and this was something she really wanted.
As for post-graduation plans? Watson says she had two in mind: "throwing a huge party" and "getting very drunk."
Sounds kinda Miley, doesn't it? But it's pretty darn impressive that, unlike some of her partying peers, Watson has chosen a way different route in life. Good for her! Here's hoping little girls who look up to Watson see her accomplishment as something worth following and make education a priority in their lives, too.
Do you think Emma Watson is a good role model for young girls?
