Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Tina Fey has spoken and our hopes and dreams have been squashed: a Mean Girls reunion movie is definitely not happening, despite how tightly our fingers were crossed.
It was reported last week that Fey, who wrote the awesomely funny 2004 flick, had been secretly planning the reunion and that everyone from Amy Poehler to Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried -- uh, you'll notice Lindsay Lohan's name doesn't pop up because she was reportedly the last to hear -- was in on it.
Well, scratch that. According to Fey, it was all one big, fat misunderstanding.
The funny woman explained that she told Lindsay to expect someone to call her about "some kind of reunion" because the movie celebrates its 10th anniversary next month. But she didn't actually mean that the cast would reunite to create a film -- she was instead thinking they would host a panel discussion with a "plate of hot wings."
Quite the letdown, but in all honesty, I'm not sure how they would have made a sequel starring the original cast since all of the main actresses are now in their 20s and 30s. Perhaps there'd be a story if they all grew up to be, like, mean Real Housewives of Fictional Small-Town Chicago Area where the film took place and Jason Biggs could star as Regina's pushed-around husband and, oh, never mind -- it's so not happening.
The best we can do is re-watch the original movie to honor its anniversary and remember some of these memorable scenes:
Cady meets The Plastics ("So you agree? You think you're really pretty?"):

Are you disappointed that there won't be a Mean Girls reunion film?
