NFL Cheerleader Accepts High Schooler's Prom Invite and Creeps Out Moms

It's become pretty common for high school students to post cutesy messages on their Twitter accounts asking celebrities to their proms. In the case of Miley Cyrus, the 21-year-old knew it would be bananas for her to show up at a dance and sweetly invited her suitor to attend one of her concerts instead, which was a really smart move on her part. Err, I'm thinking pro Houston Texans cheerleader Caitlyn, who is 20, figured she was being a sweetheart as well by responding to 17-year-old Michael Ramirez's online request that she be his hot date to the Crosby High School senior prom. Only she agreed to go. As his actual date. And no matter how platonic we know this whole night will be, there's something a little creepy about it.

Michael, who plays football at his Texas high school, sent Caitlyn a direct message through Twitter that read: "If I get 10,000 retweets will you go to the prom with me you will get asked in a cute way!" She responded, "Of course I will" and his adorable reply? "Alrighttt!" with a smiley face.

He then tweeted to his universe of followers: "10,000 Retweets and I'll be taking a texans cheerleader to prom. RETWEET RETWEET RETWEET"

Michael got the number of re-posts he needed in under 24 hours, which is sweet in a lot of ways. He's adorable for asking her out and what high school senior wouldn't want to be seen with a gorgeous cheerleader?

But the cheerleader in question is a full-fledged adult. And, if the tables were turned and we were witnessing a teen girl try to secure a date with, say, a 20-year-old college football player, I'm not sure how many of us would feel comfortable with that. As a parent, I don't think I'd be overjoyed that my son were taking a woman to his prom, either.

There's no doubt in my mind that this is as innocent as it gets and that Caitlyn is a really lovely young woman. She told KHOU that she just wants Michael to have a good time at his prom and that she's "thrilled" her job allows her to "make his prom dreams come true." But has she considered the possibility that she's opening herself up to some potentially awkward and even incriminating circumstances? I don't know how wise it is to take that chance.

I guess the positive in all this is that Michael has learned a good lesson about perseverance. But here's hoping this trend of teens asking adults to their proms tapers off sooner rather than later.

Do you think it's okay for an adult to attend prom with a teenager?
