We're one step closer to seeing Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey reunite on the big screen. Fifty Shades of Darker may have finally found a director to take on the mammoth sequel — and he's an interesting choice.
There hasn't been a whole lot of information about the upcoming film, which is set to start shooting in the new year, and fans have been left to speculate about which actors should take on roles like Jack Hyde and Mrs. Robinson. After it was discovered that Fifty Shades of Grey director Sam Taylor-Johnson had zero interest in directing the sequel, possibly because of a conflict (or 300) with author EL James, everyone was left to wonder who would fill her shoes.
James Foley is reportedly the man for the job — and, if this rumor is true, he's perfect. The Brooklyn-born director has several film and TV credits to his name, and most recently directed 12 episodes of House of Cards, the thrilling Netflix political drama starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright.
His other projects include the amazing film Glengarry Glen Ross, Twin Peaks, Wayward Pines, and several Madonna music videos (and, knowing what a perfectionist Madonna is, you get the sense Foley will be able to deal with James's demands).
More from The Stir: '50 Shades of Grey' Director Leaves Doubts About Sequels
Fifty Shades Darker has yet to appear on Foley's IMDb page, so we shouldn't get too excited yet. But I'm excited. Given Foley's past projects, I'm wondering if we can expect a sexier, more mysterious, and even darker sequel — a film that has a more noir feel to it.
The movie is still set to be released in theaters on February 10, 2017, so it's only a matter of time before other details about casting are revealed. It's happening!
