Jamie Dornan's New Handlebar Mustache Has Us All Hot and Bothered (PHOTO)

Jamie Dornan would look good with a full beard and hair flowing down his back — simply put, he's a very good-looking man. Still, it might shock you to see his transition from clean-shaven Christian Grey to gruffy Irish commandant Pat Quinlan in his new film Jadotville. The role calls for him to have a handlebar mustache -- and Dornan has been sporting the slightly obscene bit of facial hair all around London.

Dornan, 33, has his work cut out for him as he takes on the role of the respected commander, who led his troops into battle in the Congo in the 1960s — Ireland's first United Nations peacekeeping operation. The actor is Irish and, I'm betting, has invested deeply in this important role.

Well, he certainly has the look down. After debuting his mustache on Instagram, it seems to have evolved quite a bit. These recent photos show Dornan walking with wife Amelia Warner and their 1-year-old daughter Dulcie — and his facial hair has taken on a life of its own.

In case you missed it, here are past photos of the suddenly famous mustache. It looks rather, uh, authoritative and hipster.

More from The Stir: Jamie Dornan Is Leaving Christian Grey Behind in New Movie Role

I have a love-hate relationship with men's facial hair. A bit of scruff is insanely hot, in my opinion, and nothing makes me happier than when my husband neglects to shave for a day or two. But strategic facial hair -- like a mustache that requires an intensive level of grooming and possibly even (yeesh) product -- makes me shake my head and long for the face beneath the mask of hair.

Still, a lot of us are probably thinking it, so let's get this out in the open: Dornan's mustache fills some of our heads with sexy thoughts. There's a slightly obscene, pornographic '70s quality about it and I can't blame women for liking it. A lot. If you know what I mean.

Like I said, Dornan would still be cute with a beard down to his knees, and his mustache is probably helping him get into character. But I wouldn't get used to this look -- it won't be long before he starts shooting Fifty Shades Darker -- and Grey is certainly not a mustachioed man.

Do you like Jamie Dornan's handlebar mustache?
