We might have finally crossed the line from 19th to 20th Century (though barely) because not one, but two forward-thinking men have stepped up to defend The Bachelorette's Kaitlyn Bristowe for having sex with contestant Nick Viall. Host Chris Harrison wrote a lengthy blog post in which he made it crystal clear that he has Bristowe's back.
Harrison rushed to Bristowe's defense after pompous contestant Ian told the 30-year-old dance instructor off and called her "shallow," most likely because his feelings were hurt after she had become so close to Viall. It's all well and good to feel jealousy, but there was no need for Ian to be so rude — plus, he knew what he was getting into when he decided to appear on The Bachelorette. It's a reality dating show, dude — Kaitlyn isn't going to just date you, especially not with your negative attitude.
But I digress. Harrison did the right thing by discussing what happened next in Dublin when Bristowe and Viall had sex — something Bristowe, to her credit, didn't deny. Here's what he had to say about it:
As you can imagine, this was one of the most controversial dates of the season. I think a lot of people have assumed what happens behind closed doors is always physical, but the truth is, that remains entirely between the two people involved, until now… Kaitlyn is very open and honest about how she views sex and intimacy and I don’t think any of us are in a position to judge her for that — although that’s exactly what we all do. Sadly, it’s human nature.

Harrison makes a great point. So many people are focusing on the simple physical act of sex, but that's an infantile way to view relationships. Bristowe and Viall obviously felt an incredible connection and the physical aspect of their date is just one part of it Personally, I don't feel Bristowe had an obligation to reveal anything she did — not because sex is shameful, but because the fact that she feels she even has to talk about it proves that others believe it is a shameful thing. She shouldn't have given them the satisfaction of knowing what she and Viall did.
Bravo to Harrison for sticking up for Bristowe. His blog post was published on the heels of several messages Viall recently tweeted in which he praised Bristowe for her honesty and reminded the world that sex is not shameful.
I have a feeling this is far from over — remember, Bristowe reportedly had sex with another contestant, whose identity will soon be revealed.
