The 24-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, was discovered at Wills Memorial Park in La Plata, Maryland at around 7 a.m., after police were reportedly sent to check on her and her son. Realizing something was wrong, the officers rushed over to give the little boy first aid, only to realize he was dead. They then cut the swing's seat chain and took him to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore. There were reportedly no signs of trauma to the toddler's body, but an autopsy is expected to take place.
The facts surrounding this case remain a mystery. The mom was questioned by police and provided a list of addresses in which she and her child lived before being transported to a hospital for a medical evaluation. Authorities are not trying to piece together the details of what went on prior to the mom taking her son to the park. They reportedly think she may have been at the park since the day before she was found.

There are no words to describe the pain I feel for this mom. I don't want to jump to conclusions and throw out theories about what happened, but I would be surprised to learn that this mom was not in a state of extreme mental distress and unable to process her son's death. Living in denial, even if for a few hours, has to be a billion times more comforting that coming to terms with the agonizing reality that you will never see your baby again. My heart goes out to this mother and I hope police get to the bottom of this soon.
