Clik here to view.A 22-year-old man of Sikh faith in New Zealand broke a strict religious rule when he removed his turban to help a 5-year-old child who had been hit by a car outside his home on Friday. Harman Singh didn't think twice about taking off his traditional turban when he noticed the little boy bleeding on the street — and one group that is praising his actions deserves to be commended for their support: the Sikh community.
Upon seeing the child injured on the pavement, Singh removed his turban and wrapped it around his head in order to curb the bleeding. Although he is being hailed as a hero for putting his religious beliefs aside in order to assist him, the young man — to his credit — says he doesn't feel he did anything that any other person in his place wouldn't do.
We'd like to think he's right, but with so much emphasis these days on how religion separates people and creates conflict and enemies, it's really nice to be reminded about a person who uses his beliefs as an excuse to do good in the world. Singh immediately received the support of others in his faith who commended him for putting aside strict beliefs for the greater good of humanity and helping others.
ALL faiths should follow this example, rather than one that believes in segregating people to the point where they are more or less encouraged not to interact.
Another man of Sikh faith stopped at the scene of the accident and acknowledged how "strange" it was to see Singh without his turban — he admitted others who share his beliefs would die over a turban — but the second he realized the young man was helping to save a life, he understood right away.

The child and his older sister were walking to school when they were hit by a car after, witnesses say, the little boy ran across a road that wasn't being guarded by school patrol. Singh waited with him until his mother and an ambulance arrived.
He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but is reportedly in stable condition.
What do you think about this man's decision to remove his turban to help a child? Does it surprise you or do you expect it?
