The highly anticipated film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has inspired comic lovers (some would call them purists) to create their own ideal version of what would happen if the superhero powers met—only this retro viral video features two actors whom some fans say are the real Batman and Superman. While I don't see much of an issue with stealing footage made by Adam West, who played Batman in the '60 TV show, their choice for Superman—the late Christopher Reeve—is, uh, awkward.

The bottom line is: West is still alive. Reeve, who died in 2004 of cardiac arrest, is obviously not. Anyone else think it's a little creepy to unearth this footage and use it in a mashup? Check it out:

Ah, nostalgia. A lot of us tend to believe the movies and TV shows we watched as kids were superior to the ones being made now, especially when it comes to reboots. This retro video has sparked the same debate from fans that we've been hearing since it was first announced that Ben Affleck would play Batman and Henry Cavill was set to take on the role of Superman in the 2016 film: they'll never live up to the greatness of Adam West, or even Michael Keaton's Batman.

And, since most of the fans discussing this are in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s, Christopher Reeve, and not George Reeves (who played Superman in the 1950s) often comes up as the one and only TRUE Superman.

More from The Stir: Ben Affleck Cast as Batman in Move No One Saw Coming

Let me pause and roll my eyes here.

Nostalgia prevents us from opening our minds to new and different possibilities. Every generation is entitled to interpret stories the way they see fit and, given the fact that these are comic book characters, there is no such thing as a real Batman or Superman.

When it comes to reboots, which seem to be all the rage lately, I don't feel all films require them—particularly when directors pretty much follow the original script and cast new actors and actresses in old roles without changing them in the least. But that doesn't seem to be the case here and I'm excited to see what director Zach Snyder and his talented cast have in store for us.

What do you think about this video? Do you think there should be a Batman/Superman reboot?
