While the world took issue with John Travolta placing his hand on Scarlett Johannson's belly and kissing her on the red carpet on Oscar night, the Under the Skin actress says we all need to lay off the actor because there's nothing "creepy" or "inappropriate" about him.
Johannson set the record straight with the Associated Press after a photo of her with Travolta went viral showing the actress throwing what appeared to be some major shade his way while he covered her belly with his hand and leaned in for a smooch.
"There is nothing strange, creepy or inappropriate about John Travolta," Johannson told AP. "The image that is circulating is an unfortunate still-frame from a live-action encounter that was very sweet and totally welcome. That still photo does not reflect what preceded and followed if you see the moment live."

I buy it. Photos often capture that one millisecond of life that in no way comprises the entire picture. How cool is it of Scarlett to come forward and defend her friend and former A Love Song for Bobby Long co-star? The new mom has always been an outspoken, take no nonsense woman who isn't afraid to stand out from her Hollywood peers and speak her mind.
As for Travolta, he also made headlines after the Oscar's for weirdly stroking Idina Menzel's face and chin one year after he failed at pronouncing her name in any way that resembled her actual name. But there's a perfectly good explanation for that, as well: the entire scene was planned and staged.
Travolta is probably as sweet and gentle and harmless as he seems. We can all rest better knowing no Oscar actresses were psychologically harmed in the making of the Oscar's.
What do you think about Scarlett's statement?
