Everyone assumed Rosie O'Donnell would bring on the heat as a host on The View, and the opinionated star didn't disappoint. Sadly, the 52-year-old has announced she is quitting the daytime talk show—and her reasons for doing so are personal and extremely sad.
O'Donnell is reportedly taking time off from her career to concentrate on her two teenage children and baby after she and wife Michelle Rounds recently split. The couple was together for three years, but sources say they've been living apart for at least three months.
In the meantime, O'Donnell has reportedly been under a ton of stress trying to juggle The View and her parenting responsibilities, which any mom can understand.
This is the second divorce for O'Donnell, who was married to Kelli Carpenter, with whom she split in 2007, as well as the second time she has bid farewell to The View. Her first appearance on the show was in 2006, when she replaced Meredith Vieira. Her time on the show was brief back then, just one season, because of contract issues.
She was recently brought back on, in September 2014, and has proven to be a very vocal member of the cast, which includes Rosie Perez, Nicolle Wallace, and Whoopi Goldberg, with whom O'Donnell often feuds.
O'Donnell isn't wasting any time. It's expected that she'll make an announcement about her departure next week, which will also likely be her last week of work.
It really doesn't matter how much money or fame you have. For caring and dedicated moms, children come first and the star is fortunate enough to be able to take time off from work in order to focus on her kids. O'Donnell certainly has her hands full—she shares one daughter with Rounds, three children with Carpenter, AND adopted a son named Parker in 1995—and I wish her nothing but good health and comfort at this difficult time.
There's no word yet on whether O'Donnell will be replaced or who is being considered for the job.
