When in Rome ... do exactly the opposite of what you're supposed to -- that seems to be the attitude that has caused a few of Selena Gomez and Kendall Jenner's followers to criticize them for posting photos on their Instagram accounts that they feel are totally disrespectful. The duo, along with a large crew of friends that includes Gigi Hadid and Cody Simpson, rang in the New Year in Abu Dhabi, which is the capital city of the United Arab Emirates -- a country that frowns upon "immodest" attire. Selena and Kendall have posted photos on their social media accounts that some feel show way too much flesh and not enough respect for the country, its people, and customs.
While visiting a mosque on their trip, Selena reportedly posted this photo on her Instagram, which appears to have since been removed, showing her covered up from head to almost-toe. The singer flashed her ankle, which is a big no-no in the country:
As a Westerner who is used to seeing Kim Kardashian's oiled-up butt on any random Tuesday, I obviously do not have an issue with bare ankles, but I can understand why others might because it does seem like Selena lifted that skirt on purpose. Why not simply respect the customs of a country when you are spending time there? It isn't going to kill you to keep your skirt down.
Both Kendall and Selena also posted a photo that is causing some controversy. Here's a group shot of their gang outside of the mosque:
I do believe that's Selena's ankle -- again -- in that front row and some of their poses are a little silly, but I'm not sure they deserve the rage that ensued.
