A woman in Oklahoma City was arrested after she reportedly stormed into the Oklahoma County Court Clerk's office, demanded adoption records -- which are confidential -- and then threatened police officers in an incredible way when she was told she needed a court order to obtain them. Tia Ann Ooten, 26, reportedly told her 2-year-old son, who was sitting on the counter, to "be a man and kill the police."
Especially considering what has been going on in this country lately and the fact that two New York City police officers were killed on Saturday by a lunatic who wanted to avenge the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, cops could not take her comments lightly. It's sad to say this, but you just never know these days what someone is capable of doing.
Ooten reportedly engaged in a physical struggle with police and refused to leave the premises. A deputy says he grabbed her son's arm to keep him from falling off of the counter and that Ooten then grabbed his arm.
The officers say they do not believe this mom was carrying on the way she was because she was motivated by recent events in New York, but that they are still very concerned for her toddler. Who can blame them? What kind of sick message are you sending your child by transferring your frustrations to him and making him think, even for a second, that violence is the way to handle anything -- especially a very minor issue like not being able to obtain an adoption record.
Ooten is in jail and faces charges of assault and battery on an officer, obstruction, and disturbing the peace. Her little boy has been placed in the custody of the Department of Human Services.
What would make a mom say this to her child? What consequence should she face?
