David Letterman
is calling it quits in 2015. Whether you're a fan or not -- for me, his show has always been hit or miss -- one legendary performer you might forever associate with the The Late Show host is singer Darlene Love, who has been performing her Christmas classic Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) in front of a live audience on the show every year for an amazing 28 years. Naturally, Dave had to invite the 73-year-old on for one final performance.

Thanks to the backing of an incredible ensemble of horn and string players and backup singers, the He's a Rebel singer created an absolutely joyful rendition of her beloved song. A stunning moment comes toward the end of the song, when Love hops up on top of a piano in order to -- in her words -- avoid hugging Letterman because she was scared she would lose it and get emotional.

Letterman notoriously hates Christmas music, but has so much respect and admiration for Love that he kept inviting her back each year. And it seems like the feeling is mutual: the singer has made it known that she will not be carrying on her annual tradition once Stephen Colbert takes over as host of the Late Show. That's loyalty for you.

Check out Darlene Love's incredibly entertaining and beautiful performance:
