If you haven't heard the news by now, Bill Cosby has allegedly made quite a few mistakes in his life -- I speak, of course, about the heartbreaking rape and sexual misconduct charges that have recently resurfaced after the release of a new biography about The Cosby Show star.
I say "heartbreaking" because, as any '80s kid knows, Cosby was the ultimate dad/male role model. But the truly heartbreaking aspect of this story is that apparently 13 women have accused Cosby of sexual misconduct. The comedian reportedly never had to truly face the music because he settled out of court in 2005.
Okay, now that the background info is out of the way, the real news today is that Cosby's people made a whopper of a mistake themselves yesterday. For some insane reason, they asked the public to make memes out of Cosby. Oh, you betcha they did -- and the entire publicity campaign backfired in Cosby's face.
It should be noted that Cosby has never been found guilty of any of these charges. But that makes no difference when the public is concerned because people have a long memory and are more than eager to play judge and jury if they feel someone "got away" with something bad.
I hate to say it, but Cosby kind of asked for this. By assuming he was above rebuke, he opened up the flood gates -- good and wide -- as folks everywhere were more than happy to express how they really feel about the actor and his past "misdeeds."
Here are just a few of the unflattering Cosby memes that are floating around Twitter:
I think we can all agree this is NOT what Cosby's publicity team had in mind. Cosby reportedly deleted his original tweet shortly after the campaign exploded -- or should I say imploded? You have to wonder why he and his team thought it was a wise idea to invite slander -- but I think it's safe to say this is a (harsh) social media lesson learned.
What do you think about these memes? Do you think they are fair to Cosby?
