A mom from Oregon reportedly told police she threw her 6-year-old son off a bridge and into the freezing cold Yaquina Bay last night. Little London's body was discovered a mile away from the Yaquina Bay Bridge about four hours after the disturbing phone call. Jillian Meredith McCabe, 34, has been arrested and charged with aggravated murder, murder, and first-degree manslaughter for this heartbreaking crime against her own child.
London was reportedly autistic andMcCabe's husband suffers from multiple sclerosis. The mom's mugshot reportedly shows that she may be the same woman who posted on social media not long ago asking for funding to take care of her family. In her funding appeal, she reportedly described herself as a stay-at-home mom whose husband was the "sole breadwinner and provider" until he was diagnosed with MS.
In the post she reportedly wrote, "I am scared and I am reaching out. I hope I am not coming across as trashy or over-reactionary. I must explore every avenue to take care of my family right now."
McCabe allegedly threw her son off the bridge sometime before 6:30 p.m. The drop between the bridge and bay is an astounding 100 feet, and police say that even if a person survived the drop, he or she wouldn't be able to withstand the cold water for longer than 20 minutes.
Two Coast Guard vessels and a helicopter joined a search crew that included first responders and firefighters from a local fire department. The boy's body was recovered after a person eating at a restaurant by the bridge spotted him in the water.
McCabe was found near the bridge and was interviewed by police prior to her arrest. She is being held on $750,000 bail.
Right now we can only speculate that this mom allegedly murdered her son because she didn't feel she could care for him any longer. In all honesty, we have no idea what was going on in her head at the time. The details about her motive have not been released yet, nor have we heard from the child's father.
