Chrissy Teigen isn’t just a model. Over the past few years, she has proven herself a personality to be reckoned with, as well, and she owes it all to her giant social media presence. Chrissy isn’t afraid to speak her mind, and she is often funny as hell and an overall entertaining celeb to watch and follow. But after five years on Twitter, the 28-year-old has called it quits – and for a very good reason. Some crazy folks decided to unfairly rip her a new one online because of her anti-gun feelings.
Teigen was one of many people left feeling dejected and scared after the Oct. 22 shootings in Ottawa, Ontario. So, she used Twitter the way it was intended to be used and posted a little tweet to express her feelings. On Wednesday, Teigen wote, “active shooting in Canada, or as we call it in America, Wednesday. That’s not a joke. It is a fact … I’ve lost faith in this world. Sorry if it comes off as being unemotional. There is just so much bad.”
Overall, this sounds to me like a heartfelt sentiment coming from a person who is simply fed up with all of the gun violence we keep hearing about on the news. Personally, it doesn’t offend me, nor do I think she is attacking anyone.
And here are a few nasty comments Teigen received after her tweet:
“You should probably stick to having your picture taken for a living.”
“So, how much of an stupid b***h are you?”
And one user apparently told her he/she hoped someone murdered someone close to her whom she loved, like her husband John Legend.
Seriously?! If you don’t like what Teigen has to say, don’t follow her. Or, how about this, respond thoughtfully and share your take on the situation if you don’t agree with her. There’s room in the world for all sides of a debate, but whatever happened to common courtesy?
Fed up with the nonsense, Teigen posted the following “see ya later” message on Twitter:
“I can’t see anything through the sea of hate and anger that is now my Twitter. Seriously, I can’t sift through it all. It’s gotten to the point people don’t even see (t)he simplicity of the original tweet and have just wanted to get shaking-mad over something.”
Teigen then declared that she was headed for the kinder, gentler land of Instagram. Can’t say I blame her.
Do you find Chrissy Teigen’s comment offensive? Should she quit Twitter or should she deal with the responses?
